Warning

• If this DTC is detected, the system will enter the fail-safe function to ensure safety. If the ignition is switched off/main power is switched OFF after a specified time has elapsed or the vehicle has been driven for a specified period of time or more while in the fail-safe mode, the ignition will remain switched off/main power will remain switched OFF. Therefore, perform the malfunction diagnosis while the ignition can be ON (engine on)/main power can be ON (READY on). In addition, after having performed the malfunction diagnosis, verify that this DTC is not detected with the steering wheel locked. If the DTC is not detected, the system returns to normal from the fail-safe function.

• When changing to the fail-safe mode, the push button start indicator light (amber)/power switch indicator light (amber) flashes.

Detection condition
|
• The body control module (BCM) detects a short to ground in the steering lock unit circuit.

• The system will enter the fail-safe function to ensure safety. Possible cause
|
1. Malfunction in wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between steering lock unit and body control module (BCM) (See CIRCUIT INSPECTION.) (See CONNECTOR INSPECTION.)
2. Steering lock unit malfunction (Refer to [STEERING LOCK UNIT INSPECTION] in workshop manual.)
3. Body control module (BCM) malfunction (Refer to [BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION] in workshop manual.)

Repeatability verification procedure
|
1. Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC.)
